How ALBS Works

Estimated reading: 1 minute 85 views

The ALBS system operates by converting anaerobic landfills into controlled aerobic bioreactors. Here’s how it works:

  • Air Injection: The system introduces air into the landfill through a network of pipes and wells, ensuring that oxygen reaches the waste material. This promotes aerobic decomposition, a faster and more efficient process than anaerobic decomposition.
  • Accelerated Decomposition: The presence of oxygen accelerates the breakdown of organic waste, significantly reducing the time required for waste stabilization. This rapid decomposition reduces the volume of waste, allowing for more efficient use of landfill space.
  • Methane Reduction: By converting the landfill to an aerobic state, ALBS drastically reduces the production of methane, a byproduct of anaerobic decomposition. This not only cuts down greenhouse gas emissions but also mitigates the risk of methane-related hazards such as fires and explosions.
  • Enhanced Stabilization and Settlement: The ALBS system enhances the physical stability of the landfill. The faster decomposition process leads to quicker settlement of waste, reducing long-term subsidence issues and making the land more suitable for future use.
